Material Warranty by Fence Type
Material warranties are provided by the manufacturer, not by Hawk Fences LLC. Below is a summary of typical manufacturer coverage by fence type. Specific warranty terms vary by manufacturer and product line.
Wood Fence (Pressure Treated)
Applies to: Privacy (Dog Ear), Cap & Trim, Shadow Box, Board on Board, Picket, Ranch Rail
Manufacturer warranty: Pressure treated lumber is typically warranted against rot, decay, and termite damage for the lifetime of the product when used in approved applications. Specific terms vary by manufacturer (e.g., Yellawood, Alta Forest Products, etc.).
IMPORTANT: Warping, twisting, cupping, bowing, splitting, checking, and other forms of natural wood movement are NOT covered under any manufacturer warranty and are NOT considered defects. These are natural characteristics of pressure treated lumber caused by moisture loss as the wood dries after installation. This occurs with all pressure treated wood products regardless of supplier, grade, or quality.
Pressure treated lumber is delivered with high moisture content from the treatment process. As the wood dries and acclimates to its environment over the first 3 to 12 months, dimensional changes are expected. Minor warping typically stabilizes as the wood reaches its equilibrium moisture content. Applying a quality wood stain or sealant 3 to 6 months after installation is recommended to minimize further movement.
Vinyl Fence
Applies to: Privacy 6ft Panel, Privacy 8ft Panel, Semi-Privacy
Manufacturer warranty: Most vinyl fence manufacturers provide a limited lifetime warranty covering material defects, peeling, flaking, blistering, and abnormal fading. Specific terms vary by manufacturer.
Not covered: Damage from impact, improper use, acts of nature (storms, falling trees, hail), discoloration from dirt or mold buildup (cosmetic maintenance), modifications made after installation.
Chain Link Fence
Applies to: Residential Galvanized, Residential Black, Commercial Galvanized, Commercial Black
Manufacturer warranty: Galvanized chain link is typically warranted against rust-through for 10 to 15 years. Black vinyl-coated chain link is typically warranted against peeling, cracking, and color fading for 10 to 20 years. Specific terms vary by manufacturer.
Not covered: Surface rust on galvanized components (cosmetic), damage from impact or climbing, sagging fabric due to external force, acts of nature.
Aluminum Fence
Applies to: Spear Top, Flat Top (6ft and 8ft panels)
Manufacturer warranty: Most aluminum fence manufacturers provide a limited lifetime warranty covering defects in material and finish, including powder coat peeling, chipping, and corrosion under normal use. Specific terms vary by manufacturer.
Not covered: Damage from impact, improper use, acts of nature, scratches from normal contact, fading due to UV exposure over time, rust from contact with dissimilar metals.
Steel / Wrought Iron Fence
Applies to: Spear Top, Flat Top (6ft and 8ft panels)
Manufacturer warranty: Steel and wrought iron fences are typically warranted against structural defects for 5 to 20 years depending on manufacturer. Powder coat finish is typically warranted for 5 to 10 years.
Not covered: Rust or corrosion from scratches, chips, or damage to the powder coat finish that are not repaired. Regular maintenance (touch-up paint on scratches) is the homeowner’s responsibility. Acts of nature, impact damage, and modifications after installation.
